TMT Rebars: common questions
Is sariya the same as TMT rebar?
Yes. Sariya is the everyday Urdu word for steel reinforcing bar. TMT (thermo-mechanically treated) describes how modern deformed bars are made: quenched and tempered for a tough outer layer and a ductile core. Order by grade and size, for example Grade 60, 16 mm.
What is the difference between Grade 40 and Grade 60 rebar?
Grade 40 has a minimum yield strength of 280 MPa (40,000 psi); Grade 60 has 420 MPa (60,000 psi). Grade 60 is the usual specification for RCC columns, beams and slabs; Grade 40 is used where the structural drawings call for it. Grade 75 is available on request.
Which sizes and lengths do you supply?
10, 12, 16, 20, 25, 32 and 40 mm deformed bars in standard 40 ft (12.19 m) lengths, with cut lengths available. See the weight chart on this page for nominal bar weights and bars per tonne.
Can you supply rebar cut and bent to my BBS?
Yes. Send the bar bending schedule or drawings with your quote request; rebar is delivered cut, bent and tagged by member, ready to fix.
Do TMT rebars come with a mill test certificate?
Yes. Every lot of TMT rebars is supplied with the mill test certificate and heat number. Use the "Request mill test certificate" button on this page to ask for the certificate with your quote.
How do I get a price for TMT rebars?
Send the grade, sizes, quantity and delivery location through the quote form. Prices are quoted on request and we reply usually within a few hours on business days; minimum order quantity and lead time are confirmed in your quote.
Guides for TMT Rebars
- Rebar guideRebar (Sariya) Weight Chart: kg/m & per BarA steel reinforcing bar weighs d² ÷ 162.2 kg per metre, where d is the bar diameter in millimetres. A 12 mm bar weighs about 0.888 kg/m (10.8 kg per 40 ft bar) and a 16 mm bar about 1.578 kg/m (19.2 kg per 40 ft bar).
- Rebar guideGrade 40 vs Grade 60 Rebar: Strength & UsesGrade 60 rebar has a minimum yield strength of 420 MPa (60,000 psi), against 280 MPa (40,000 psi) for Grade 40, so it carries about 50% more stress before yielding. Always buy the grade written on the structural drawings and never substitute without the engineer's approval.
- Quality guideHow to Read a Mill Test Certificate (MTC)A mill test certificate (MTC) is the steel mill's record of one heat of steel: its chemical composition and its tested mechanical properties against a named standard. Check that the heat number on the certificate matches the tag on your material and that every value meets the standard's minimum.
- Buying guideSteel Order Checklist for Contractors (Pakistan)For an accurate, comparable steel quote, send the supplier the standard and grade, every size with its quantity in tonnes or pieces, lengths, any cutting or bending, and the delivery location and access — and ask for mill test certificates with the material.
- Buying guideSteel Suppliers in Karachi: How to ChooseSteel suppliers in Karachi fall into three groups: mills, importers and stockists (traders). For most site and workshop orders a stockist is the practical choice — compare them on the standard and grade quoted, mill test certificates, the weight basis of the price, cutting and bending, and delivery to your site.
- Buying guideSteel Suppliers in Pakistan: Mills vs StockistsPakistan's steel supply chain has three layers: mills that roll rebar and some sections from scrap and billets, importers that bring in structural sections, plate, coil and pipe through Karachi port, and stockists that sell mixed lots with processing and delivery. Buy by standard and grade, insist on a mill test certificate, and choose the layer that matches your quantity and timeline.
